Why Traverse

Traverse shares the same founders and leadership team as Summit Achievement, and the program concept grew out of more than 18 years of therapeutic work with adolescents and their families. Summit Traverse is for students that need a bit more time to practice the skills learned in Summit Achievement or other wilderness program in a more realistic setting, while increasing their contact with their family and reintegrating a traditional school schedule into their life. However, appropriate candidates for Traverse do not need a year or more of therapeutic support. Rather, it is believed that they can likely transition to a more traditional environment after 2-10 months.

We understand that there are teens whose problems require forms of treatment different than that provided by Summit Traverse, due to the nature or severity of the teen’s problems or the suggested amount of additional residential treatment post wilderness. For this reason, regardless if coming from Summit Achievement or another treatment program, Summit Traverse’s application process requires an in-depth review by the admissions and clinical team including obtaining detailed information regarding the applicant’s progress in their current program or setting.
