Accredited Curriculum at Summit

Summit’s accredited academic curriculum, developed by Edgenuity™ and facilitated by Park City Independent’s distance-learning online program, provides a wide range of courses at both the middle and high school levels. The standards-based curriculum is accredited:

  • The North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI)
  • The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI)
  • The Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA)

Since these are the same organizations that accredit many public and private schools, credits earned at Summit are easily transferable to most educational settings.  Additionally, many core-subject courses are NCAA-approved for student athletes.

Course Options

The Summit catalog of over 60 courses includes options in all subject areas at all levels of instruction. During the admissions process parents are provided a copy of the course catalog and encouraged to sit down with their son’s or daughter’s school guidance counselor to select the most appropriate course of study while at Summit Traverse. For example, if the student is currently studying Algebra I and has recently completed their first semester, the student may select to enroll in Algebra I, Semester 2 at Summit, resulting in the least learning time being wasted. With the ability to enroll in any semester at any time of year and work at their own pace, students are given a more personalized and focused academic experience.

Most Summit Traverse students enroll in 3–4 courses upon admission and have the potential to earn .50 credits in each course, depending on their progress. Students are able to select the specific courses needed to meet graduation requirements, including repeating core courses (credit recovery) that they may have failed, taking electives and foreign languages, and preparing for ACT and SAT exams.

Web-Based Learning

The web-based curriculum helps students gain comprehension in multiple subject areas at the same time by interacting with multi-disciplinary and multi-subject curricula. The curriculum methodology is multi-sensory with material being presented through video lectures, supplemented by text and audio books, and assessing knowledge through a variety of interactive approaches that benefit different learning styles. All videos have speech to text options and all text can be converted to speech for both the visual and auditory learners.
