Troubled Teens Schools

Summit Achievement is not to be pigeon holed, but if one had to categorize it could be considered one of the troubled teens schools found across the country. It is so much more than that though. The staff of teachers, dorm parents, wilderness guides and therapists all take their job of working with their students towards a better life very seriously. Studies have also shown that Summit's unique approach with wilderness-based therapy has great effects on an individual and their family. Students attend Summit Achievement for many reasons. Behavioral and attitudinal problems are common and range from promiscuity, lying, issues with authority and impulsivity and drug use. In regards to their student profile they can be considered amongst some of the troubled teens schools. In every other aspect they are completely different. They are a six-week program with the option for extended stays to ensure their program's success. Their program is set up under the frame of six different levels, with the idea that a teen can complete one level per week. Teens attend school in an academic setting three days a week while also working their issues in individual, group and familial therapy. They are able to earn classes that will transfer to another school once their time at Summit Achievement has ended. The rest of the week is devoted to taking on an outdoor challenge that pushes teens out of their comfort level. After a few days of working hard at trying something new, students get back together and talk about what they learned. This troubled teens school believes that through wilderness therapy and taking on the challenge of being outdoors and taking the obstacles is has to offer will help instill self-esteem within its students. Once a teen can take responsibility for their actions and be at peace with their past they can learn to work towards a brighter future. They can stop blaming themselves for the person they were and learn new behaviors to lead them away from the mistakes they were making.
