RECREATION
A structured schedule allows students to practice focusing on academics during school times, while looking forward to rest and recreation. Each week a large portion of one day is devoted to Service Learning. Research has shown that young people who are involved in community service are less likely to exhibit narcissistic tendencies. Some of the community service will include working for Habitat for Humanity, rebuilding trails in the White Mountain National Forest as well as helping neighbors in need.
In addition Summit Semester students will have one day of outdoor adventure a week that will include but not limited to sea kayaking, Nordic skiing, alpine skiing, canoeing, rock climbing, rafting, and mountain climbing. We believe, and research supports that outdoor experiences and exercises are helpful in combating depression, obesity, and substance abuse.
