Programs for Troubled Youth

When it finally has come to the point that a family is looking at programs for troubled youth to aid in bringing their son or daughter back from a path of destruction, it can be a hard thing to admit. No family wants to send their child away or feel like they couldn't provide the best setting for their children, but sometimes problems become bigger than anyone could have predicted. That is where Summit Achievement comes in.

When prescription pills, traditional consequences, or individual therapy doesn't work or parents want to put a stop to an issue before it explodes Summit Achievement offers great programs for troubled youth. They differentiate themselves from other boarding schools and rehabilitation centers because of their wilderness therapy. They pair that with traditional counseling and academic programs to help teens realize and accept their past mistakes while working towards a brighter future. They accept and work with issues such as drug abuse, depression and promiscuity as well as many other issues facing teens these days.

Students live in beautiful, comfortable residential dorms and are monitored by dorm parents who, although can never replace a teen's actual family, they do provide comfort and structure. They attend traditional classroom schooling three days a week and attend group therapy sessions at night. The academic aspect of Summit's program offers easily transferable credits so teens can move smoothly into the next stage of their education once they have left Summit Achievement.

The therapy portion of the program consists of group therapy where students air grievances, evaluate the program, and give and take feedback. This facilitates trust between the individual students and teaches them to handle issues in a more rational way. Students also meet with an individual therapist to work on issues that may have triggered their destructive behavior.

The rest of the week is dedicated to outdoor adventure that challenges students and allows them to accomplish a goal. This empowers students and allows them to feel and create the strength they need to work towards a better future.

This program as a whole spans over a six-weeks with students completing a level per week. Each level is designed to deal with different levels such as leadership and organization. By working with a program that couples wilderness therapy with an academic setting and therapy teens can get back n the right track and families can come back together.
