Parent Testimonials

  • "My son arrived at Summit with an attitude. Camp was not easy for him. It was full of changes, as well as mental challenges. It encompassed a lifestyle that was foreign to him, and he had to adjust and adjust quickly. Once he resigned himself to accepting his “fate,” he really got into the program and began to flourish. I cannot say enough good things about Summit nor recommend it highly enough. Our son turned his life around immediately from what it was; the change was unbelievable! The morale of this story is that we do not know what we would have done without Summit and, if you have reached that state in your life, trust me and call Summit immediately."

  • "Thank you again for all of the successful experiences you provided Matt this summer. Largely because of your recommendations, he has been accepted at private schools he has hoped to attend. We are so grateful to all of you. He had a great time; he loved Summit, and we love you for all you have done for him."

  • "Everyone thinks Thomas has grown taller, but he hasn’t. He is simply standing up straight now, and we are all very happy about the metamorphosis, both physical and spiritual. We are grateful for what you were able to accomplish with him and are impressed with the richness and power of your program."

  • "You certainly have demonstrated a deep personal and professional commitment to the emotional development of Julia. We applaud your efforts in guiding her toward responsible choices and taking responsibility for her own actions. More importantly, we thank you for sticking with her. Julia is an incredible human being with many gifts and talents. I am so happy you hung in there as she revealed her more redeeming characteristics."

Outcome Study, University of Idaho

Summit Achievement was one of eight adventure-based therapeutic programs that participated in a large outcome study conducted by the University of Idaho to look into the effectiveness of wilderness programs. The results of this study indicate that participation in outdoor behavioral health (e.g., therapeutic wilderness) programs led to a statistically significant reduction in the severity of behavioral and emotional symptoms, as perceived by the students, and even more so as perceived by their parents. In addition, a majority of the participating students demonstrated symptoms at discharge in a range consistent with normal populations. When the results of this study were compared with other outcome studies of more traditional settings, the outdoor behavioral health (wilderness) programs showed greater score reductions in shorter treatment durations. A complete copy of this study can be received via download by clicking on the link in the right margin of this page or by contacting the Admissions Department.

Parent References

Another way for parents to gage the effectiveness of our program is to talk directly with other parents and hear what they have to say about their own experience with the program. Summit Achievement maintains a list of parents who are willing to share their experiences with new parents who are considering the program for their son or daughter. This list is available from the Admissions Department.
