Summit Achievement now offers Suspension Services to boarding school students. During the past 14 years of operation Summit has consistently been asked to provide our services to short term students who are suspended from his/her boarding school and would not benefit from returning home. The goal of this service is to provide a safe and structured setting to suspended students, allowing them to continue their school work and reflect on the circumstances surrounding their suspension. Summit Achievement Suspension Services utilizes evidence based programming that reflects the "In School Suspension" model, proven to have a significant impact on recidivism on a long term basis. Suspension Students participate in a daily reflective activity and group discussion regarding the behaviors that lead to their suspension. Upon completion of the suspension a copy of these reflective activities is provided to the referring school administrator and the parents of the student.
Summit Staff will make arrangements to pick the student up from school or from the airport or bus terminal in Maine or New Hampshire and transport them to our program located in Western Maine. As part of the community at Summit, students will work on academics (curriculum to be provided by sending school) during the weekday and attend study hall in the evening. All students will have recreational activities and participate in community service activities on weekends.
Summit Achievement is a state licensed program that has provided counseling and treatment services to over 1000 boarding school students over the past 14 years. While students here for suspension services do not receive intensive therapy and treatment, we have seen the benefit to students who participate in the group process within the Summit community and return to school with a resolve to make better choices. Summit Achievement staff are carefully screened, have completed background checks, and have various certifications in emergency medical services and residential treatment in accordance with our licensing by the State of Maine.
While the program is flexible in length, there is a three day minimum. The number of spaces available for Suspension Service is limited. The maximum number of students on campus is 32. All students must be referred by the school or sending professional, and have the option to return to the sending school if appropriate. A full application is required.
